Budgeby Parrot’s lifeguard log

3 minute read

Features

The sun is up, the tide’s behaving, and somewhere between the dunes and the deep blue sea, a new day on Paradise Island begins…

Mocktail-maker Squawkatoo is polishing her shaker like it's an Olympic sport. Amuseables Lemonade and Aruba Coconut are mid-choreography (somewhat in time), while Amuseables Ukulele is still tuning under Amuseables Palm Tree – same chords, fresh optimism. Ricky Rain Frog has assumed his usual spot in his hammock, eyeing the shoreline with suspicion…

Meanwhile, Budgeby Parrot – island lifeguard, high-alert napper, whistle always primed – is back on duty.

Logbook open. Time to check in.

Location: Top-secret tropical setting
Date: Perpetually peak season
Weather: Bright. Breezy. Ideal for rescues

08:00
Morning sweep.
Beach busy.
Deckchairs arranged with questionable logic.
One noticeable absence: Amuseables Treasure Chest.

08:25
Scanned the dunes.
Lemonade and Aruba Coconut confirm last sighting: Treasure Chest drifting near the reef.
Unusual. Chest prefers shade, soft sand, and zero movement.

**

09:45**
Still no Treasure Chest.
Ricky offers to investigate in his rubber ring.
Makes it ankle-deep before reconsidering and retreating to hammock.

11:30
Amuseables Peanut spotted. On a surfboard. In aviator shades.
Current activity: showing off near the outer reef. Shark zone.
Gobfrey Whale Shark appears to be clapping.

13:10
Shimmer spotted offshore.
Confirmed: Treasure Chest, wedged and rotating gently.
Peanut attempts rescue solo. Misses, circles back. Attempts again. Misses again.
Chest now upright but facing the wrong direction.

**

13:45**
Rescue launched. Budgeby and Squawkatoo aboard lifeboat.
Peanut joins, carrying a fruit skewer for morale. Squawkatoo takes over navigation, despite no formal training.
Fishing rod deployed. Rubber ring towed. Chest hooked on the third try.
Everyone shouting. Gobfrey Whale Shark cheering.

Log note: unorthodox approach, surprisingly effective.

16:00
Treasure Chest recovered. Coins damp but intact.
Peanut tells entire beach he was the hero. (No one corrects him.)

16:50
Post-rescue cool down. Treasure Chest reclining under parasol. Ricky back in hammock, rubber ring restored.

17:30
Mocktail service resumes. Lemonade and Aruba Coconut uncoordinated, but committed. Ukulele still playing. No change in tempo.
Log note: playlist intervention long overdue…

**

17:45**
Final headcount. Everyone accounted for, sun-dazed and softly settled.

All present, mostly correct.
Day well saved!
